"I look at the world and listen to myself".
No matter what dramatic processes are taking place in the world, nature continues to live. Streams can't stop running, birds can't stop singing, flowers can't stop blooming, and the essence of the artist can't sleeping. The essence of Serhii Hai's works lie beyond the desire to change the world, but in the contemplation of beauty and the multiplication of world harmony.
"The dominant trend in contemporary art is to send messages to society. The artist today becomes a kind of transmitter, a medium. As for me, I don't send any messages. I'm in a kind of updated modernism, when I try to talk about some things, but I don't change the world, I decorate it."
The painting, deliberately limited by the artist in the subject matter, impresses the viewer with its power and intensity. The paint resembles frozen lava, and even an ordinary "nude" turns into a volcanic eruption. Nude, two people, a rider – these seemingly trivial subjects are the artist's favourite. But such genre monotony allows him to penetrate deeper into the very essence of the phenomenon, achieving in each work that perfect harmony that can only be compared to the beauty of natural phenomena.
"In art, I deliberately limit myself to the subject matter, but I really like to explore colour, technique, and nuances."
The perfection of the composition and a special symphony of colours certainly convey the author's passionate emotion to the viewer, who falls into the captivity of the aesthetic universe of the master's painting.
In addition to a fruitful artistic life, Serhii Hai, being a philosopher and an observant person, has accumulated a lot of wisdom, which he is ready to generously share with the viewer.
"A good artist is the one who allows himself to fail, to learn and to be trembling in relation to what is happening around him...".
It is the duty of a true artist to be receptive to the world in all its manifestations, and the tragic realities of the Ukrainian present touch the artist's soul no less than each of us. Serhii Hai (1959)
Serhiш was born in Lviv. In 1986 he graduated from the Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts.
Since 1995 - a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.
Since 2003 - a member of the association "BZH-ART". He teaches painting at the Department of Design of the National Forestry University of Ukraine in Lviv.
The artist's creativity is a talented combination of different styles and trends, in particular Fauvism, Expressionism, Art Brut, Neo-Modernism.
He has participated in solo and collective exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, in particular in the USA, Germany, and the UK.
According to the edition, he is one of the hundred best artists of Ukraine: "100 Names. Contemporary Art of Ukraine since Independence".
He lives and works in Lviv.
